SARGODHA, PAKISTAN - (ANS)- A shocking case of a Muslim headmaster, who allegedly ordered a student to urinate into the mouth of the only Christian student in his class, has come to the attention of ANS in Pakistan.
According to my investigation, almost a month has passed by and now reliable sources have recounted in an interview the outrageous details of this case.
We have been told that a fifth grader Christian student was singled out from the entire class on Friday, December 10, 2010, accused of allegedly throwing urine on his Muslim classmates, then allegedly was physically tortured by the headmaster [principal] of the Government Primary School in Chak (village) # 35-B (Southern Branch), Sargodha, Punjab Providence.
Our sources have told us that then, on the alleged order of the headmaster, Riaz Cheema, who is also a teacher at the school, students held him tightly on the ground, opened his mouth and a Muslim student urinated into his mouth which humiliated him insanely.
Villagers, as well as the family of the Christian student identified as Gulzaib Javed, aged 13, son of Javed Masih, said they learned about the shocking incident only after they saw Gulzaib vomiting after returning from the school that day.
Talking to ANS, Gulzaib Javed said that allegations were leveled against him in class with other Muslim classmates and then another boy urinated into his mouth, while the headmaster kept hurling obscenities and kept his mouth open and other Muslim students held him firmly down on the ground.
A formal complaint by Javed Masih, his father, and Ejaz Masih, maternal uncle of the Christian student was lodged at Karana Police Station, Sargodha, against the headmaster.
In an exclusive interview Javed Masih told ANS that, after the complaint, Karana Police Chief Inspector, Ameer Gondal, along with a contingent of Karana police officers, raided the home and then arrested the headmaster.
Javed Masih asserted sadly that soon after his arrest “powerful and dominant landlords of the village” went to the Karana Police Station and, on their personal guarantee, secured the release of the Muslim headmaster by interim pre-arrest bail.
After his release, the distraught father of Gulzaib approached Tahir Naveed Chaudhary, a Christian provincial parliamentarian who works with the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) in Punjab province, for his help.
On behalf of ANS, I accompanied Christian parliamentarian Chaudhary and Javed Masih, the father of boy, and after we reached the Karana Police Station we inquired about the reason why Inspector Gondal had released the headmaster.
Gondal told us that the headmaster is a government Educational Department’s employee therefore the police were not “authorized to detain and interrogate him.”
He also said that an Educational Departmental enquiry should be launched against him and, if he is found guilty, then the police could intervene and arrest him.
Later, ANS¸ established that Javed Masih and the Christian provincial parliamentarian on December 14, 2011, approached the top Educational Department’s official of the Sargodha district, Atta-Ullah Shah, who is also the Executive District Officer (EDO) Education, and submitted an application at his office against the alleged “atrocity” inflicted by the headmaster on this Christian fifth grade student.
Atta-Ullah Shah then deputed, Muhammad Khalid, the Deputy District Officer (DDO) Education Department, Sargodha, to probe into the case fairly and report him about the results “so as to meet the end of justice.”
Chaudhary also urged the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ghulam Mustafa, of Saddr Circle, to “probe and serve justice to the appallingly impoverished Christian family.” Chaudhary and his APMA team were assured by the top officer, that “justice would be served” to the Masih’s son and he also issued directives to probe the matter under article 255 of Pakistani constitution.
On December 16, 2010, I, on behalf of ANS, went along with the father of Gulzaib, to the Government Primary School Chak # 35-SB to see Riaz Cheema, the headmaster.
I observed that as soon as the headmaster saw Javed Masih being accompanied by a media person became afraid of retribution and fell on the his knees and begged to pardon him for his actions, as he had also learned that in the meantime that a departmental as well as judicial enquiry was about to be initiated against him and he was sure that he would be found guilty because whole village had turned against him due to his misconduct with this young Christian boy.
On the night of December 16, 2010, at about 2100 hours (Pakistan time), Javed Masih called me and said that, fearful of retribution and of being fired from his job, the headmaster had come to his home to apologize for his behavior.
It’s an open truth that ANS has learned that if he is found guilty; he would be deprived of his pension as well as his bonus funds on his retirement because this was the last year of his 45 years of service.
In the meantime, the Christian youth is still recovering from the terrible humiliation that he suffered in his classroom in front of the other students.
